The word Ashtanga is comprised of two Sanskrit words, meaning 'eight' and 'limb'. The eight limbs of Ashtanga yoga refer to: Yama (moral codes), Niyama (self-discipline), Asana (posture), Pranayama (breath control), Pratyahara (sense withdrawal), Dharana (concentration), Dhyana (meditation), and Samadhi (oneness with the self).
This Ashtanga-inspired yoga class will integrate the eight limbs of yoga through movement, breath, mantra, and meditation. The practice begins with sun salutations, followed by a set of standing and seated postures. Breathing throughout each asana is a large focus of the practice.
The class is suitable for all levels and can be adapted to your abilities. Please note, this class will not cover the full primary Ashtanga series, and is an Ashtanga-inspired class.
